Short books offer value, yet risk oversimplification and omission. I enjoyed several aspects of this book. The sections on “Use the Bible to Give Voice to Your Suffering” and the emphasis on the Hope of the Resurrection are both areas that I focus on both in counselling and in sermons. These received insufficient coverage. I was disappointed to see the statement, “physical pain entered the world because of sin” because it overlooks pain’s good and well-designed purpose. I don’t have a problem that chronic pain is a part of our fallen world, and the author could have looked at the corruption of pain. I appreciated the encouragement of medical options. I would want to chat with someone with chronic pain after they read this.
