The Living Bible (TLB)

Overview
The Living Bible is a "thought for thought" translation as opposed to a word for word translation. This is a paraphrase. Its purpose, according to the editors, is to say as exactly as possible what the writers of the Scriptures meant, and to say it simply, expanding where necessary for a clear understanding by the modern reader.

As some have already mentioned below, it is true that any thought- for-thought translation, like the TLB 1971 version, should be packaged as a commentary and not as Scriptures. It is very helpful in that regards.Harold Powell

If this was marketed and presented as a commentary, I would be fine with it. But it's not. It's presented as a Bible, this is not a Bible.Eric Oleson

I love Taylor's Paraphrase! As a person that respects and uses more wooden translations every day there is a grammatical flow and pace that TLB brings that is refreshing. Of course, always remember that TLB is just a paraphrase and is NOT the last word any theological discussion! Having said this, if you like a warm and flowing narrative than what the more labored, wooden and myopic texts provide, you may want to take a short term TLB vacation to get that bigger and broader view of the text. It’s like sipping an ice cold tea on a tropical island… :) Enjoy!Dan Olin

One should always note this is not Scripture, but a paraphrase to assist youth and newcomers, also the basis of the New Living Translation. It is fairly well-known. Thus, from a comparative textual or historical perspective within that context, it has value.
